Pick your nominal surface on your cad model (making sure your Object Selection is om "select on model only" with "select shape" also on). Drag this nominal surface into the measure window to scan on-line to create an actual to compare the nominal to.
After dragging the nominal surface into the measure window, hide your cad model & use the pick & measure window to set up your scan boundry/perimeter on the NOMINAL surface(making sure your Object Selection is now on "select from all visibles".)
Also, make sure you have @ least 6 points to activate/light up the scan button. Run this from the pick & measure, then hit the Scan button in the measure window to complete the scan.
Now drag your surface into the profile window, set your tolerance & apply.
TO TURN OFF THE EVAL. WINDOW, HIT THE "REMOVE MEASURED POINTS" BUTTON
(IN REMOVE ACT, NOM BUTTON)
Remember:
The "NOMINAL SURFACE PARAMETRIC DEFINITION DOES NOT EXIST" error will occur if you haven't picked your nominal surface (making sure your Object Selection is on "select on model only") & dragged this nominal surface into the measure window to scan on-line to create an actual to compare the nominal to.

Now drag your surface into the profile window & apply. MAKE SURE TO HAVE A TOLERANCE IN THE + & - WINDOWS OR ERROR "NUMERIC INOUT IS ILLEGAL" WILL APPEAR.
However in 3.5P2, the legend only read in metric, but you could output in either inch or metric. This may have been fixed in later versions.
